Styling hair with a straightening and curling iron
Straightening AND curling the same hair? Really??? Is this a thing right now?
Well… yeah, it is. I am the living proof.
So if you are laughing your head off hearing of an iron that straightens AND curls hair, please be kind.
I am one of those who use this thing and yes, I do straighten AND sometimes also curl my hair.
“But whyyyy?” – you may ask.
Because my air-dried curls are frizzy and messy as hell and I look like a cavewoman with that.
Do I feel empowered with that? Sure! Sometimes.
Other times? Not so much.
So I straighten it. But that can get boring, so AFTER straightening, sometimes I curl it. But these curls are much different than my original curls.
Do you think I am a strange idiot? If so, you must be a middle-aged man. Bold, if I guess right.
But this blog is for girls. A safe place for those who want to straighten their curly hair and curl it back, if they want it. When they want it, how they want it.
Am I right?
What to use to straighten and curl your hair?
I have a Remington. It is the Remington 2-in-1 Curl and Straight Confidence iron.
And I really like it. It works like a charm. We bought it because with this one I can make 3 totally different looks: straight hair, wavy hair and curls. How cool is that?
Well, I don’t say that I did not need time to learn how to use it. But after 3-4 occasions, it is now done by muscle memory. And when I say muscle, I mean muscle. It is like a complete arm exercise.
How do you curl your hair with a straightening iron?
My tips for using Remington Curl and Straight Confidence iron
It is just the question of twisting the styler while glide it through your hair or not.
If you twist the iron 180 degree, it builds the curls and adds volume. If you just glide it straight down, it makes your hair sleek and smooth.
Make sure your hair is knot-free then pin up the top of your hair, to make it easier to work with the sections.
Never leave your hair between the heated plates for long!
Same technic as the above, but clamp a medium sized section of your hair between the plates. Rotate, glide slowly.
Just glide smoothly downwards after clamping a medium sized section of hair between the plates.
This Remington iron heats up in 30 seconds, has 5 temperature settings between 150-230C (I use it on 190C).
Tip: for fine and bleached hair use it heated to 150-170 degrees, for healthy hair use 170-210 degrees, and for thick hair use 210-230 degrees. My hair is healthy and moderately thick and it works on 190 degrees fine.
Also, to create tighter curls use it a bit hotter, and decrease its temperature for a looser wave.
My iron has a smooth ceramic plate that is somehow infused with antistatic coat which I don’t understand but it is clear that it works. (I also use zippers that I definitely can’t build for myself so I don’t see any problem with not understanding a coat on an iron.)
On the other hand, my iron understands me: it remembers my last setting I used.
Am I dumber than a “straightening-curling” iron???
Let’s not sink this deep.
Oh, one more thing! Let’s never forget to use heat protection!
